Tarazzu is one of the most wellknown region of the Costa Rican coffee community. Founded in 1960 by 228 small farmers, today they have more than 3000 members, producing almost 135 thousand tons of coffee a year. Most of the farms are situated between 1200-1500 masl with the average size of 4 hectares.
What makes this cooperation unique is the quality job and improvement done these years. This cooperation promotes the development of the culture of sustainable coffee in order to offer a high quality coffee to their customers. Moreover, the main purpose of the agricultural improvement is to raise the quality of life of people working in coffee.
To improve the quality, the organisation puts great effort in good agricultural practices, just like shade management, soil condition, renewing planatations and nature protection. Also, they are encouraging the re-use processes at the washing stations, as well as the solar panels, to minimaze the bad impacts on nature. As for sustainability the keywords are transparency and abbountability. Also, the traceability of the product is important.
